The Hubert Family 6.23.11

Families are so much fun. I mean, really, what is better than getting together with brothers and sisters and cousins and grandparents and just hanging out and having a good time? I'd say, not much! It was a fun time at the park with the Hubert family, and a fantastic opportunity for photographs. I have to tell you, my personal favorite of these few I'm sharing with you, is the one with the stroller- everyone else is checking out the turtles in the pond, and the baby girl is just having a blast with her blankie!
Enjoy!

Hubert Family 5.30.2011

It was a hot hot Memorial Day, so luckily the Hubert family and I met up late morning before the real heat of the day set in. (By the way, apparently Spring Grove Cemetery is a great place to go on Memorial Day... lots of activities and special events, if that's your thing. Luckily for our purposes, though, most of those activities didn't start till our shoot was over!)
It has been really fun to be able to photograph the Hubert family over the years. This is our third family shoot together! The first was when their kids were 4 years, 2 years, and one month old (this was before I started blogging my shoots, but you can see some of those photos on my Facebook page). The second was last year, when the little guy had just turned one year old (which you can check out here). How special to be able to watch them grow, and see how much they've changed year after year!
We spent the majority of our time together near one particular pond at Spring Grove. Maybe it's looking at the water and all the reflections, but as I was going through these photos I kept thinking they looked like they belonged in a dream. Or a fairy tale. Maybe it's just me!
Here are a few to share :)

Schierberg/Fischer Family

I am nowhere near finished with the Schierberg/Fischer family portraits from today, but I just want to share a few.
I don't know about you, but I am always so antsy to see photos... When I shot film, the wait was excruciating! What do you mean I have to wait an entire hour to see my photos? (Now, processing the film myself is another matter entirely- the wait is not nearly so difficult when I am in control of the developing...) Anyway, I always want to try and have something to share as soon as possible, just in case my clients are as antsy and impatient as me!

I am getting off topic.

This was a really fun shoot this morning! We enjoyed a sunny, temperate walk outside at Spring Grove, shared photo ideas, shared jokes, played with the kids... It was altogether an enjoyable way to spend an hour.

One of the things I like most about photographing children is that they just do what they want to do. Some of my favorite pictures happen when kids do their thing, regardless of what the adults think should happen!

The Willmore Family

Spring is finally here! Well, at least we've had a taste of spring-like weather anyway! Luckily The Willmore family was able to take advantage of some of the warmer temperatures and sunshine and get photos taken before the return of colder weather we've had these last few days.
It was a lot of fun photographing four generations of Willmores! This was the first time all 5 grandchildren were all together at Grandma and Grandpa's house, and it was my joy to be there to document the occasion. Here are some of my favorites:

 2 newborns, 3 toddler/preschoolers, 4 parents, 2 grandparents, and 2 great-grandparents!!

The proud Grandparents with all the grandbabies!

Thank you, Willmore family!

Scott and Jen

Sunday was Scott and Jens engagement portrait shoot. It was a cold winter day, but we met at the Krohn Conservatory, where it is always a balmy 70 degrees! We also went down to the iconic Eden Park gazebo where Scott lovingly scratched their names into the wall, a rite of passage for lovebird Cincinnatians. We had a good time and got some really good photos!  Congrats, Scott and Jen- can't wait to photograph your wedding in July!

The Maxwell Family

I sincerely hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas this past weekend!!  I know I did!

Amid all the comings and goings from family gatherings and church services this weekend, I was asked to photograph the Maxwell family on the day after Christmas.  Bruce and Kathy's three sons are all grown with wives and children of their own, and everyone knows how difficult it is to line up everyone's schedules to spend a day under the same roof at the same time, especially if you don't live close by!  So when everyone was going to be together on the 26th, the family portrait opportunity was not to be missed.
I also have to tell you, Bruce is a financial adviser, and he has been an encouragement to my husband and me through some tough financial times.  It was actually after a meeting with him that katyC photography was born.  He planted the seed of encouragement in me to use my talents to help support my family.  He convinced me that it was possible and challenged me to make it happen.  It was my pleasure to be able to photograph his family!
For this occasion, they were looking for a more formal "looking-at-the-camera-and-smiling" type of shoot.  I am really looking forward to another opportunity Bruce hinted at for having me come and do more casual photos this spring (because, from what I experienced working with these guys for a formal shoot, a casual shoot is going to be a lot of fun)!

Baby James

I don't care what anyone says, a nine pound baby is still a tiny little thing!  Tiny and squishy and WAY easier to haul around than a toddler!
Anyway...
I'm so glad to have gotten to photograph 10 day old James!  What an adorable little bundle (you can check out his mom's maternity shoot here.  And, in case you were wondering, when I do maternity photographs, you get a newborn session at a discounted rate.  Just a little FYI).
I had planned on him probably passing out cold (as only a newborn can) and being able to position him how I pleased for our shoot.  But this little guy was astoundingly alert the majority of our time together!  He was calm and pleasant and just seemed to be taking it all in.
It was difficult deciding which photos to share because this little one is so stinking adorable!  I have to admit, the main reason I shared the second one (the one with the blue blanket) is because it cracks me up every time I look at it.  I'm pretty sure it's one of my favorites!
Enjoy :)
