The Easton Family

Still working on the photos from my second shoot of Sunday evening with the adorable Easton family, but I thought I'd share a few of the ones I like so far.
My favorite thing about photographing families with toddlers and young children is that you really can't "pose" them... the kids are going to do what they do and they are completely, 100% their honest selves and have pretty much no regard for the camera.  Consequently, the rest of the family just responds to the little one and things can be a lot more authentic.
Here's some of the Easton's shoot:

The Fette Family

I had the pleasure to photograph the growing Fette family on Sunday.  There is something about maternity photos and pictures of toddlers that is difficult to bring together.  The intimacy and calm of maternity photos doesn't always jive well with the whirlwind that is a toddler!  You just have to keep taking pictures and hope for the best because things will never go exactly as planned!  The important thing was that we all had a good time, and came up with some good photos.  Congrats Fette family- can't wait to meet little brother!

9.18.10 Shawn and Melissa's Wedding

It was a beautiful day for a wedding, and I was honored to be a part of this one!

I don't know how photographers who are strictly wedding photographers do it... There is a lot of responsibility on the shoulders of the one taking the photos.  They are creating the images that will be hanging on the wall and cherished in albums, helping to recreate the memories of this special day for years- even generations- to come.  The thought of it can be a bit overwhelming, which is why I don't choose to shoot too many of them!  I learned a lot, and really had a great time capturing these moments for Melissa and Shawn.  Congrats to you two, and to your future together :)

Liz and Elwood

I had the pleasure of doing my first pet photo shoot today.  I must say, trying to photograph Mr. Elwood was very similar to trying to photograph a toddler.  A very ornery toddler who doesn't listen!  He is one very special doggy- lively and energetic, definitely one who has his own ideas of how things should happen.  Because he can be a bit unpredictable in new or controlled environments, we just hung out in my parent's fenced-in yard and just let him do his thing.  Seriously, I think this dog has ADD.  It was all we could do to get him to sit still long enough for the shutter to release!  Most of our time was spent just following him around the yard- he wanted pretty much nothing to do with me or the camera!  But with lots of treats and lots of loving, we had a good time this afternoon capturing some really fun photos.

Nicolette's Senior Photos, Part Two

Thankfully the weather cooperated on Sunday to be able to finish Nicolette's senior portrait shoot, after our previous attempt was cut short due to rain.  She brought along a few friends to chat with and put her at ease in front of the camera, and her mom who helped to orchestrate clothing changes in the middle of the park.  We all had a pleasant time together.  One of her friends is a photography enthusiast who snapped her own pictures and documented the occasion (and I'm sure she got a few unflattering images of me at work!).
I don't really remember having my senior pictures taken.  All that I have to remind me are the photos themselves, just your basic studio photos.  They are good pictures, and I like them, but I don't remember the experience really at all.
I guess the point I am trying to make is, I hope that I helped to create a more memorable photography experience for Nicolette.   :)

The Schierberg Boys

Today I had the unique opportunity to do a photo shoot at a marina.  I was a tad nervous about falling in the water, but mostly I was just really stoked to photograph two adorable little boys, for their 2 year and 4 year portraits, in such a fun setting!  We all had a pretty good time, and no one got wet, though I did learn that flip flops are not appropriate footwear for the docks (though luckily not the hard way)!
Here's a few of my favorites...

10.20.30. Eden Park

So today was my first fully booked 10.20.30. Event Photo Shoot.
Observations from today:  contact information is always important;  you don't need to have bread for geese to think you are going to feed them;  30 minutes is a lot of time- no need to rush; quantity really does lead to quality when it comes to photographs and I really do have enough storage on my memory cards; I scare easily when photographing near water- don't sneak up on me!
It seemed like everyone had a good time, and so did I.  I had quite an assortment of photographs to choose from today.  Here are a few:
